Purpose

The purpose of the Peace Maker Award is to give community support to a student or students who have taken a lead in trying to stop or prevent bullying in their schools.

Bullying often happens outside of the classroom and even outside of the school where much of the harm comes from cyberbullying. Moreover, the bullied child is often silent, not wanting to admit that they have been a victim or, if the student does mention it, they are often told to "suck it up" because that's just the way it is. Oftentimes, the justification is "teasing" or "messing around." These behaviors have no place in our schools and communities and this award seeks to end them and recognize those students brave enough to stand up for themselves and others.
